Whiskers are also known as vibrissa, from the latin vibrare "to vibrate". Vibrissa are the specialized hairs on mammals and the bristlelike feathers near the mouths of many birds. Beginning in 2014, I will be accepting reader questions and selecting one or two each month to answer.

Send your questions to thewhiskerchronicles@gmail.com.  Be sure to include your name, city, state and email address.  Elvis and I will get right on the hard hitting inquiries.  We will publish the answer along with the first name, city and state of the person who submitted the question.

You may also post your questions on Facebook.
